  • New Bora 4mo Sport

    Afternoon all,

So I picked up a Bora 4mo Sport over the weekend, located in Albury with a nice family. Well looked after and completely stock, I got it for $7100 with 158,000 k's on the clock.

I plan to change some of the interior which is a bit aged, scuff marks, cracks etc. Nothing major, but car will look much better with these replaced. Where could I source these parts? These do not have to be OEM, I want to get rid of the wood-grain look. Attached are photos only of the bad, the rest of the interior looks great.

A major annoyance of mine is that the drivers seat belt clip is rubbing against the leather on the seat next to the console, and making an awful noise. Just need to find some fabric to attach to the seat belt clip to get rid of this.

Only other plans at this stage is to replace head lights and tail lights, and install a double DIN heat unit. Need to do some reading on the head unit replacement.

Attached are a few quick photos...

Hey if those are the only marks on the interio you are doing well.
That soft touch stuff often peels up all over the place, yours looks OK, the wood grain is crap on all cars, it cracks and the panels start to lift.
There are some kits around to do brushed aluminium for the R32 look, or plain black also.

    Nice car BTW

I think I had seen a few people replace theirs but couldn't find where everyone sources the replacements.

ECS want to charge an arm and a leg, but eBay kits are hugely cheaper - but supposedly clip onto the existing trim. Probably being ignorant here, this was all based on 5 mins research!

Keen to hear where other Bora owners have got their replacements, I don't mind brushed metal or black - but not keen on paying hundreds of dollars!

I had same issue with my 4 motion Bora as well.
i bought some replacement black door handle pulls off EBay for about $100 delivered from u.k
i just googled how to replace and found heaps of you tube videos.

The centre console around gear shifter I just pulled out of car and with a fine plastic scoured and water took all the rubberized coating off and then got some plastic polish and shined up the plastic. It looks quite clean and a huge improvement on the scratched looked.
i still have wood grain around radio and gear knob, but it looks ok.
i searched for replacement silver r32 kits, but they were very expensive to replace the lot

          Thanks mate, appreciate it!

Looking a bit further on ECS, the silver/brushed aluminium replacements are a fair bit more expensive - so will probably replace with black. Found most of what I was after though. Couldn't find the door handles so will check out eBay.

I plan to replace the stock head unit with a double DIN, do I need to buy any bracketing/frames etc?

Either look on ukmkivs or vwvortex aswell. I bought oem net optic and sanded it down to look like brushed aluminium but i always keep my eye out of the classified sections just incase.

I just did 900kms on the highways and around the sunshine coast in my Bora. I still love it as much as when I bought it! Awesome car.

I haven't yet been through more than 2 full tanks yet, but I need to get used to the fuel economy - obviously not as good as my old 2011 Holden Cruze (1.4 turbo). I think I am getting closer to 9-10L/100km - what can be done about that? I use 98 RON as the previous owner always used.

Also, I am having a hard time finding info on putting a double DIN head unit in the car - do I need a fascia kit or any replacement trim to facilitate this? There seems to be some on eBay specifically for this but would appreciate any clarification.

remember it is a bigger v6 motor with AWD instead of FWD so it will use more juice.
plus your right foot may be heavy toying with your new ride haha

Yeah I was definitely looking out for the higher consumption - but then bundabora has chimed in saying he gets 8L/100km - now I'm jealous!

If this can be improved by a tune, I may have to take it to a VW specialist in Canberra to have a look at.

tunes always improve economy as it removes the factory fat from the fuel supply and makes everything to a tighter tolerance for the conditions you live in, maybe Gav who deals with Custom Code tunes will drop in and give some thoughts

I bought these ones about a year ago (although i think they only cost me $70)

You'll need a cage to mount it in.. I'll look up the part number later. The frame included with the head unit should integrate it nicely.

Hey. I only get 8.0 / 100 on a highway drive with a little city... But I would recommend a custom code tune. Instant improvement. around town completely is more like 10.5...
