  • The Incognito GTI

So I finally gave in and bought a more 'dailyable' Golf,
Meet the incognito MK4 (and its MK2 grandad)

    Previous owners have put on,

    Full Miltek turbo back system
    Stage 1 tune
Whatever the numerical name is for the better diverter valve
A couple of R32 bits here and there
    And some minor de-badging

Plans for the time being is to sort out RWC and Rego, which includes the rather obvious oil leak, and maybe some metal bashing where its been jacked in the wrong spots.

Remember kids, rubber grommets aren't lifting points!

must have watched that video on ECStuning for the lift rubbers but never purchased them? lol
looks like it should be a good starting point!
Is it missing the front lower lip?

      Yes, good eye.
It supposedly 'improves' intercooler air flow...

I had a previous owner of my old cressida, he found the car overheating.. so cut the whole lower part of the bumper off...
turns out the thermo fan had a faulty connection inside the motor which would make it stop working intermittently..
        idiots :'(
glad you found it before it was ruined completely!

The intercooler is on the side though haha. looks like a good base, a bit of tlc and she'll be good as new! Where's it leaking oil?

Looks tidy, I am thinking PS fluid leak. Unless the intercooler has over flowed?

Not sure on the 'smic get more flow by removing a body panel that doesn't block air' logic......lower lip is on the list.

Changed oil/filter last week on a drive on car ramp, and the leak appears to somewhere on the back of the engine (its dripped onto the tranny output shaft and flung oil everywhere)

It'll be in a hangar on jacks ASAP to sort the funny business out.

Couldn't resist the urge, so purchased a Podi Dual function, Boost and Oil Temp gauge,
Was looking into triple function Autron gauge, buut that didn't work out.

Have a pillar mount coming from Greg (Carformance) soon.

Also, this happened when I went to have a look at the spark plugs....

So off with the walve cover, dirty 20v topless shot, with culprit dodgy valve cover seal.

Also re-mounted the coil pack Amp back on the airbox after some muppet left it hanging in the back of the engine bay.

Had the same happen to me, found oil in the spark plug holes, valve cover gasket had had it. Not a bad idea to change the half moon seal under the cam chain tensioner too if your having oil leaks. Do you know who did the stage 1 tune?

All sorted on the leak, strangely only the spark plug 'wells' had oil in them, the rest of the valve cover didn't leak at all.
But I replaced it with this kit from GAP,

Is that the half moon seal you were talking about?

I believe "Peak RPM" did the stage 1 tune, which is uses revotechnik software (if I'm reading this receipt correctly)

No, one the passenger side of the motor there is another semicircle shaped seal the same as the one on the valve cover gasket but located under the cam chain tensioner, its quite prone to failing and leaking oil all over the gearbox and such.
