  • Caputo's MKIV GTI Build Thread

    Hi Guys,
After having my car for over a month now, i thought i should start up a build thread for my little beast as she progresses.

Its a 2001 1.6L MANUAL Golf in Reflex Silver.
Being my first car I'm very happy with it.

    So Here goes:
Heres one of the first pics i got of her:

First thing i got were the different tailights and tint was a must: +Debadged Golf lettering (Parked next to a pretty MK5 GTI at dads work)

Could see a few leaves under window so i took the guard off.... what a mess it was! Never seen anything like it haha
Old owner must of parked it under a tree all its life! All clean now =)

    Getting a scrub:

Then went for an hours drive down to Lonsdale:

And Picked up these BAD BOYS! 17" Polo GTI Denvers

After a few weeks of having her i saved some cash to get them vibrations going! And I love it
(Hair stands up on my head with the drop)

Wiring whilst in the progress: don't mind a 43 degree day to be outside for 4+ hours (Whatta head fk!)

    Finished product in the boot:

Top of the range head unit come at me! and 100% Italian Leather Gear Boot!

Broke this during the install but ordered the part and now fixed!

Legal much? Now replaced! with white ones haha

Then made myself up a little Pod Intake with shaved box: (Also a small oil filter to replace air box pipe)

The difference the pod has made is actual ridiculous! Louder exhaust, Induction sound, and quicker revving. Finally the box reads right haha.

So anyways this is what I've done so far and I'm happy how she sits!

Some plans for the future include
    -Lower front skirt
    -Sitting tighter with the ground
    -XX- Plates
    -Painted Exterior trim
    -Exhaust Tip
    -Painted headlights
    -Black Grill
    -Angel Eyes
    -Rear Tailgate Spoiler
    -Update Steering Wheel
    And many more

All advice and tips are welcome.
Hopefully see some SA guys down at The Day of the Volkswagen soon!

    Thanks and Enjoy!

hey man with your power wire for the sub you can wire it underneath the airfilter and inside plastic covers where all the other wires run through so you dont have to wrap it in tape. the wire ends up coming out of the glovebox. looking forward you your build i have a mk4 golf aswell!

Thanks marcoz but i wired it about 3 weeks ago haha through a grommet in the fire wall which is basically below that plastic cover.
Only if i new that before LOL. btw its not actually wrapped in tape, that pic is just after i pulled it through with a coat hanger which was taped to it. i found it pretty easy to do anyways, i might try and manoeuvre the cable so it can't be seen as it is now.
If i ever wire anything else up in the future its good to know anyways

I really don't know why i decided to do it during a heat wave we had in Adelaide at the time being above 40+ all week haha.
Nice! You should start a build aswel

                    Thanks guys!
I'm really trying to find a skirt for my front bar as it is really starting to frustrate me! I would go buy the anniversary edition one off ebay for $150 but id prefer to find a second hand original skirt for cheap.
There is a wrecker in Adelaide that has one but won't split with the front bar. It is silver aswel so i might think about it depending on price, unless i can find another.

I managed to manoeuvre my sub wire so it can no longer be seen where it was before, so I'm happy with that

Im also wanting to get her lowered so if some of you guys could point me in the right direction to some cheap Springs, Spring/shock combo, and or Coilovers. Some advice about coils also would be great as all I've heard is they ride very harshly but I've never had experience with them.

                    Cheers Nathan

                        Hey Anthony
I ordered it from Solitare Spare Parts up at Mile End.
From memory it was about $9.50 and had to come from Sydney.
I did it over the phone and picked it up a week later.

Not too hard to fix but you just need to manoeuvre a screwdriver into the lock so you can release it, and put the new part in.
Spray some WD40 or oil of some sort in the mechanism so it lubricates the lock and is easier to open.

Do you think its worth going for coils? or Springs?

                        Cheers, Nathan

If you just want noticeable low and a firmer ride go the springs thats what i have nut im scrapping in carparks so if you want to go all out static fitment get coils

This is my car with a 30mm drop(eibach pro kit)

This is with a 50mm drop (h&r race)

And this is with kw v1s

I vote coilovers, the ride is no harsher than with springs and you can get it to sit how you want. I always had a little reverse rake with the h&rs and I hated it.
