  • Front wheel bearings

    Hi all,

Just a quick question about the front wheel bearings on the MkIVs.
How hard are they to change? Is it a job that a mechanically competent person could do at home or do you need presses, special tools etc.

I think the front wheel bearings on my MkIV are getting a little noisy...nothing serious yet but just making a bit more noise when cornering than they used to.

At least I think it is the wheel bearings....could it be anything else giving what sounds and feels like a worn bearing?

    Thanks for your help.

I am not familiar with the mk4 but my guess it will be similar to the mk1 & mk2 that I have replaced in the past. You don't have to be a genius but you do need a press & the tools. Afterwards you will need a wheel alignment.
Understand how it works, troubleshoot logically BEFORE replacing parts.

      servicing bearings

      Hi,

Are the front wheel bearings servicable? Can they be greased?
On my Jackaroo 4WD the front bearings need to be repacked regularly, are the golf bearings sealed or do they need greasing from time to time?
