Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Cloudy Rear View Mirror

I'm currently in the process of tidying up my '01 Bora V6 4Mo, and I have a few issues, most of them I'm able to figure out, but not this one. My rear view mirror inside the cabin is all cloudy around the edges, and is a huge pain. I've noticed its on the inside of the mirror, and all attempts to clean the outside (obviously) are completely pointless.
Is this something that can be taken apart, so I can clean the insides, or because it's the auto darkening model, is it a non serviceable part, and will just need replacing?

careful with it as the liquid in them is not something you want to get on you or your car.
check the last page of two of the "what have you done to your mkiv today" for an example.

I believe them going foggy is a sign of it failing

You definitely dont want that liquid spewing out of the mirror. The results are nasty if they do.

I'd recommend looking overseas or 2nd hand. They are $670 Brand new from Volkswagen.
