Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Bora 4Motion chains

What are some telltale signs the chains need replacing? Car has only done 84,000kms but the sound they're making is worrying me. I also have a hissing sound from the back of the intake... it's pretty loud. All said, the car seems to run without any issues so I'm not sure if this is normal.

Not sure if the 4mo chains rattle the same as a mk3 VR (jar of marbles sound)
    Hissing noise isnt a leak?

Sorry fixed. Sounds like a leak but I can't pin point where it's coming from.

Okay so the air leak is coming from this hose, which is connected to the unit in the second picture. What exactly am I looking at? Where do I get the hose replaced?

That's the activated charcoal filter. Guessing the hissing is a vacuum leak which means it should be replaced when you have a chance.

Grab from your local dealer for a rippoff price or try ecs tuning. Alternative is replace with standard vacuum tubing from auto one etc.

EDIT: If its any consolation i inspected my chains at 160k when i heard marbles and all the chains and guides are fine. Still have the noise today.
