A litre in an hour isn't much. How far do you get out of a tank? I would expect over 500km easily. Those are instantaneous figures not averages.Originally posted by Jmslwthr View Post

When its reads litres per hour you are not moving. 1 to 1.5 per hour is normal idle.
When driving it will change to litres per 100KM.
On warm up cycle expect something in the 20s. Moving off the lights mid 30s. Cruising in 4th gear 7-10 litres/100km.MK4 GTI - Sold

Ok saw nothing to indicate a video
The most I have seen in my Jetta 2.0 (golf has no display) is 48litres/100km, nailing it up hill. The numbers jump around all over the place. You will see 0.00 when going down hill too.
Start taking note of your odometer each time you fill up, work on the overall consumption when you fill up.
Use fuelly.com to track things if you like.
In that car city driving, anything under 10 litres/100km is OK.MK4 GTI - Sold

take a look at www.fuelly.com it is an international website but you can find cars of all makes and models for comparison and you can use it to log your own usage too, I have found it quite handy when car shopping for real world figures

I used to get roughly 550-600 kms per tank, I don't even bother counting now but this 100oct stuff has got my attention. Where do you get it from?Originally posted by Jmslwthr View PostGot about 400km to 3/4 of a tank on 100oct..will start monitoring my consumption

i usually wouldn't bother paying any attention whatsoever to fuel consumption figures as i couldn't give a crap, the fact that the bloody L/100 is right in front of my eyes and constantly changing its just too hard to ignore hahaOriginally posted by Lito View PostI used to get roughly 550-600 kms per tank, I don't even bother counting now but this 100oct stuff has got my attention. i wish i could switch it off. I just want to know if somethings wrong , ill have a look at this fuelly site.

Shell used to have a 100RON product called Optimax Extreme, then it changed name to V-Power Racing or some such. It had 5% ethanol. Only a few servos had it, Coronation Drive had it and was my local for many years.
The United and other independents have a 100RON, they have rammed in 10% ethanol, which pushes the RON up but lowers fuel effifiency.MK4 GTI - Sold

Revival, sooo did some measuring and got 90km/10L (180km/20L) bit higher than i was hoping but i guess i do 50km a day in an hour and a half of driving - stop/start with air con on not thrashing it but driving it how a gti should be driven-does this sound about right? might change my fuel filter, temp sensor and spark plugs just cause..

Waste of money on parts if there's no proven defect.Originally posted by Jmslwthr View PostRevival, sooo did some measuring and got 90km/10L (180km/20L) bit higher than i was hoping but i guess i do 50km a day in an hour and a half of driving - stop/start with air con on not thrashing it but driving it how a gti should be driven-does this sound about right? might change my fuel filter, temp sensor and spark plugs just cause..
The fuel filter was probably never changed but I have only seen them make a difference on high output cars.
The temp sensor can be checked with VCDS, make sure it goes up from cold, with the gauge.
Plugs I doubt that will do anything either, unless you have a misfire when giving it a bootful.
The numbers you have indicated would take you about 500km on a tank, which is 10l/100 ish. Through traffic, I don't see you doing better tbh.
An indication of how good it is on fuel on the highway, would tell you much more about how well it is running.

as i stated my figures are above :\ thanks for the input though.Originally posted by Sirocco20348 View PostWe have already stated what you should be getting. Set your trip computer and run the tank til the low fuel light comes on.... This I think means 5L left. Add an assumed 50km on to you trip and then tell us your figures.

its about to hit 160 so its up for a service.Fuel Filter has been changed several times, need to double check service book but i know it hasnt had new fuel filter or plugs in some time, changing these parts can only be beneficial. i wanted to know a rough figure on what i should be expecting per100km as i thought it was a bit higher than it should be but my question has been answered.Originally posted by h100vw View PostWaste of money on parts if there's no proven defect.

Referring to the original post-how high up the L/per hour would go up on take off (up to 70L/hr on a hill start :S) didnt seem right??
