  • New windscreen and rear vision mirror time for my Bora 4mo. I has questions!

    Hi all,

My windscreen needs to be replaced on my bora 4 motion and my rear vision mirror has spat out it's nasty black juice.

    Just a quick few questions:

    a) Do the MKIV Bora 4motions have the same windscreen as the MKIV Golf's?
    b) Does the windscreen have any sensors in it? (Rain, temp etc)
    c) Which rear vision mirror was fitted to the bora's? I know it has auto dimming but does it have a rain sensor as well?
    d) Any tips on where to buy a new rear vision mirror? (other than Volkswagen, ECSTuning & 2nd hand wreckers because the spewing kamikaze mirror is bound to leak I'm told).

Thanks for any and every help!

    Cheers,
    RubAVeeDubDub

Sensors are in the mirror from memory. You could put one in from a lower spec mkiv, but if my previous sentence is the case, the wipers won't work
    Bora gone
    Vento VR6
    MKIV GSW TDI
    7P Touareg TDI

      Thanks for the response.

Shame! Looks like I'll need to search long and hard to find a 2nd hand/aftermarket one.
Wish I could brand new but volkswagen want $670 for a new mirror and the cheapest I've found online is $300US plus delivery.

Any searching tips? Were these fitted to the Passat or even Audi models?

      Sadface.

AFAIK high spec cars (Raintronic/auto dimming mirrors) use a different mirror mounting point/bracket to the lower spec cars. If you ever need to replace the window, you'll need the high spec windscreen.

        a) I *think* they're the same size. R32 has raintronic and auto dimming mirror. GTI's and lower spec don't and have the normal windscreen. Low trim Boras are the same.
        b) As above.
        c) As above.
        d) No idea, but good luck!

Here's a guide to add them which has a little more info
        79 MK1 GLD
        03 MK4 GTI
        94 993 Carrera

Thanks heaps for this input. Very helpful...and at the same not the news I wanted to hear! Haha!

Well looks like I'm going to have to bite the bullet and offshell $450 to Volkswagen for a new windscreen.

Is there anywhere else I could buy one from?

Haven't seen any Bora 4mos or R32 Golfs being wrecked for a while...

            Little update.

Found someone willing to fit a rain sensor version windscreen for $275 cash. Not too bad at all. Could be much worse.

Well pick up the blower and start getting private installers to compete with each other

I started with a quote of $450, then 5 calls later, I found Quality Fit Windscreens who is just around the corner willing to do it for $275. He will provide a certificate of workmanship and 12month warranty.
