    Its tricky as the gearbox end as well as the shifter end would need to be replaced as they completely different 2 the later models. I was told that a shifter kit may fix some of the issues like it being a bit sticky from 1 to 2nd and that notchy feeling when shifting. But i actually like the clicking into gear the later models don't do this and just slide into gear.

      Cheers fellas, looks like I'll probably be looking for a 1999-ish model since I like features and I'm not too fussed about MY.

      How much would you expect to sell a 1999 GTI for? NSW, manual. I only ask because the price varies so widely between sellers and sites.

      Edit: Also, generally what price am I looking for with

      * New clutch (if I go chasing power/chipping) & install
      * Front and rear strut braces
      * New rear exhaust section

      Doe VWWC have a for sale section?

        Ooh, here's a question for you. About what RPM does the turbo properly spool up? And what's the cruising RPM at 110?

          you would have to do the whole thing.

          including gear box.

            By 2k its really pulling - If its chipped you'll get a real hit at about 3500 aswell.

            3000rpm = 120km/h, 110 is about 2800 or so.

              on the gearbox side of things, what needs to be changed? just the linkages?

                1999/2001;-

                Genuine Recaro's
                Full Size Alloy Spare
                Sunroof was standard
                VR6 Style Linkages on Gearbox / Shifter linkages as mentioned
                No Trip Computer (Half MFD)

                2002 & mid 2002 onwards;-
                Aero Wipers
                Chrome Boot Struts / Chrome Engine Strut
                Sunroof [optional even 95% of them had it]
                Steelie Spare
                Generic Recaro's (not as up bolstered as much; changed due to cost / complaints)
                Suspension a tad softer as well
                Half MFD (trip computer etc)

                Thats about all i can remember that i found between the black gti and my red one (black being late 2000) and mine being 2002.

                Theres other things but i forget.. lol

                  These are though, as far as I'm aware (though they haven't really been looked after).

                  P.S Is there a rule about image-hosting here?
                  These are the leather buckets in the A3, and without a doubt they'll be the same ones that were optional on the GTi.

                    What's max stock boost on the GTI, and boost after, say, a GIAC chip?

                    PSI or BAR, either is OK.

                        Stock is anywhere between 5 and 10 pounds afaik - A GIAC chip will bump that up to about 17psi (max), few more little mods and you can bump it up above the 20s but the turbo starts to get out of its efficiency range.
