All of a sudden today my sunroof won't open fully and slide back, if I turn the knob to open all it does is go to a flat position from the tilt ad then get stuck and stay closed, seems like something's stopping it, it's like it tries to open but can't so just gets stuck and stays closed, I can still tilt it though all works good in retrospect

Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled
After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.
Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before.
We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

HELP Sunroof problems in my bora!

I believe the motor runs until a certain torque level, once it becomes to hard to push the glass it returns to the closed postion. Perhaps tilt the sunroof and have a look at the rails to see if anything is blocking it and if not try lubricating the slide rails?

As above something is probably jammed in the rails or the sunroof itself could have come off the tracks. My bet is the sunroof cover has jammed itself in the tracks. You'll probably have to remove the headlining to inspect it properly, not a hard job but can be tedious.
