Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Black filter thing between coolant reservoir and wiper fluid?

Anyone know what this is between the coolant reservoir and wiper fluid?
Not sure what this hose off the bottom connects to or whether it's a drainage/overflow pipe?

Carbon canister, part of the emissions. It only has 2 pipes IIRC and they are both connected.

Thanks I have a pipe coming off the bottom with about a 45 degree angle then the pipe ends just before the timing belt, not sure if it should be facing out somewhere or connected to anything? In the picture above it's along side the wiper fluid reservoir and that carbon canister under those two pipes wrapped together at a section

Cant tell what you mean from your description. Pretty sure there's a mount on the canister that goes through the inner wing, is that it?

That hose circled in red comes off the bottom of my carbon canister, all I want to know is if someone else has the same thing, does it connect to anything or what?

They have a drain tube at the bottom, there is a hole in the fender for the tube to go in but it's a pain in the ass to get it in there. Just letting it vent into the engine bay shouldn't do much harm, not much stuff comes out and when it does it's only a little bit of vapour.

All good bro, I'd recommend pointing the tube towards the fender and not the engine though, don't want to chance fate haha
