Hi mate , there is Eurocarparts in Sydney and they will supply a full kit for a reasonable price, probably will find it is a LUK anyway. As for flywheel have the thing machined , you will find there is enough first time for the hydraulic mechanism to take up no worries. Not a Dual mass so like i say have it machined. By the way i know someone who machines dual massers if you are stuck

      Cool thanx heaps.
The mechanic has informed me that he is not sure if he can find someone to machine the flywheel.. so maybe that contact of your will might come in handy...

Hi mate my post might have been a bit cryptic - your engine shouldnt have a dual mass flywheel mate so you will be able to get it machined at a local shop. I meant i know someone if anyone needs a dual mass machined. Have fun.

Anyone heard of the RIVETS on the DIFF snapping off on a 1.6L box?Been told its a common prblem for this box and supposedly they make a BOLT KIT to fix propblem.
A couple of times i reverse, the car would get JAMMED and not move. then had to drive forward to UN-JAM and after a loud bang, the car would move again. When changing the clutch, we found alot of small chunks of gearbox guts??

OMG mate get that box stripped as you have been very lucky the diff hasnt squeezed it through the casing. Yes yes yes very common and transporters too. I have heard of a bolt kit last one i done we just salvaged a diff from another but do some research but man get that thing sorted or you will be up for more than a diff!!!!!!!

Good man and hey put a lotto ticket on, in my experience that would have spat through the casing.
Keep us posted on how you go mate

Gearbox bloke thinks its the boz and not so much the diff.
$900 to rebuild the box and check the diff.
                    Is that about right?
Anyone with suggetions on who to call for a quote?

So that $900 quote to rebuild the box went STRAIGHT INTO THE CRAPPER!!

                      Cluth kit $350
                      Labour + machining flywheel + oil $650
                      Rebuild gearbox & DIFF $1700
                      total $2700

The feeling of a tight, smooth gear-change.......FKNG EXPENSIVE!!

                      Still love my golf though!

A workshop in Oak Flats (Wollongong Area) quoted me that to rebuild BOX only.. it sounded cheap for full rebuild but thats where they get ya!!
In the end he said he neede to rebuild Box and Diff.
