  • Spark Plugs for AGU 1.8t

I hate to do this, but i'm sick of sifting through threads to find what i need so just thought this was the fastest what to get the info i need.

I'm going to replace my spark plugs on my 1999 golf gti (AGU).
    It has no performance mods.

I'm just after the names and number of the plugs others have used and have been satisfied with. It currently has Bosch FR7LDC

    Cheers

    >Stock spark plugs NGK PFR6Q stock gap .032"

    --Common replacements
    Autolite 3923
Autolite 3922 (one heat range colder)
    Denso Iridium IK20
Denso Iridium IK22 (one heat range colder)
    Bosch F7LTCR
NGK BKR7E (Race plug, one range colder)
*avoid BKR7E-11 as the factory gap is too large, .042*

For every additional 50HP over stock, a general rule is:
    --1 heat range colder
    --gap shrinks by .004
So, a chipped 1.8T would make good use ofa plug one range colder gapped to .028

That was taken from the FAQ over vwvortex

BKR6EKT - Factory heat range plugs with copper cores
PFR6Q - Factory heat range plugs with platinum cores

BKR7EKT - Copper cored plugs, cooler heat range better for chipped cars
PFR7B - Platinum cored plugs, cooler heat range better for chipped cars

Copper plugs don't last as long as platinum. Otherwise no particular disadvantage. They are heaps cheaper too.

If you plan to do some mods, even the factory plugs are adequate until you go to a Big Turbo.

PS I am coming to Adelaide at the end of the month, if you fancied a tune

I have one of Gav's stage 2 custom code tunes and it is worth every cent. You only need stage one if you have no mods to your engine/ exhaust.

                      better fuel consumption ha ha
You will stick your foot in at every chance to use the extra power you now have and the fuel consumption will probably rise.

Yeah for the first week or so and then you want more power! I should have put in "depending on how you drive it"
