Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Mk4 1.6 front end bushes kit?

Pretty keen to replace the bushes in my 01 manual 1.6 MK4 throughout the front end...and back end I guess if it's not too costly. Anyone know anywhere I could find kits of some sort? Thanks

I have found OEM aren't too costly for these. Unless you want to upgrade to stiffer bushes - also look at ebay
My build thread here: 1.6 sr into 1.8T http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/foru...-8t-63249.html

theres numerous kits available from numerous places these guys ive linked you keep it pretty simple and organised with almost if not everything you need in the kits... there not too bad to deal with either, if there is problems they sort it pretty easily. like stan said ebay is good too.

depends what level you want to go to.
most just do control arm bushes and strut top bushes and bearings.

        Could do the whole lot
        tie rods
        ball joints
        sway bar end links
        sway bar bushes
        dog bone mount
        rear beam bush
        rear strut tops
        Bora gone
        Vento VR6
        MKIV GSW TDI
        7P Touareg TDI

I am sure the worst bush will be the rear control arm bush. Replace that with the one out of the TT/S3/R32 and leave the rest alone is my advice.

Don't fit poly bushes in the rear axle, they don't work correctly and will become worn out in a very short time.
