Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • 1.8 n/a (AGN) tuning/itb's?

Hey guys, so I've just got my mk4 golf, swapped my old hilux for it. Now I know the usual route for an n/a is to do the turbo swap. But I've been playing on the idea of an aspirated build, possibly running throttle bodies. The idea isn't so much about high power figures but more of a raw feel. Plus, who doesn't like the sound of crazy intake sound!?
So basically just wondering if anyone had either done this, or know any information about doing it?
    Cheers.

Wasn't in a mk4 but https://www.google.com.au/search?q=g...en-US:official this fella did one in a MK1 years ago. 200hp or so IIRC.

Getting it to run well afterwards will be the hardest part.

That's epic! I think it would be a really cool way to build it.
Does anyone know if you can use the front facing plenum off say an AGU on the AGN?

It will bolt on, the heads are the same casting. I know where there is one.

Is there much fiddling around with sensors and what not to make it run? I'm new to the vw scene, so please forgive me if I'm a complete noob! Haha.

I don't want to rain on your parade but it sounds like an awful lot of money and work for not much gain in the scheme of things. You can get 200 hp with total driveability with a 1.8T ie Golf GTI or Polo GTI and an ECU tune from Gav. You could probably sell your car and buy a GTI and end up spending the same money as what you are proposing. Sorry, just my opinion.
2001 Bora 4 Motion Sport now used by number two son
2011 Skoda Octavia Scout now with Underground Performance tune
2010 Jetta 125 tdi dsg for the misses - Impressed
2006 Polo GTI - Enhanced by some of Gav's magic - Absolutely loving it
