Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • GPS Install on Driver's side vent

    Hi everyone!

I got a Garmin GPS today and was looking for places to install it because I don't like having to take it out of view incase of theft and I don't like visible cables running everywhere. In my old car (Prelude), I was able to put it in the dash quite nicely and it worked well.

After sitting in my drivers seat for a good 20 minutes tonight I've decided putting it over the drivers side air vent will work best. I figure I will just remove the 'shutter' piece of the air con (easy enough) and fit a bracket in it's place to hold the GPS. I also gather I should splice the power from the back of the cigarette lighter behind the centre console and put a female socket in there. Now here comes the problem - I would plug the GPS-supplier cigarette lighter to mini USB into this female socket but how on earth do I run it through the AC duct up to where the GPS would be sitting?

Please let me know if I'm not being clear/could explain something better/you want pictures.

Thanks in advanced for any help you can offer!

    Matt.
