  • Mk4 gti head unit install, need help!

So i'm looking at installing a sony head unit in my 1999 mk4 gti and was wondering if there is a wiring harness that will go straight from the eurovox one to a new sony head unit?

if not was just after people's input as to what is the best way to go

p.s. i have moderate wiring know how

there was not one I could find 18 months back, I got myself a pioneer to iso, then had to do some swapping of pin locations
Eg. the power and the ignition were in the wrong spot on the iso plug, so when you have everything connected, the h/u is always on..

you just staying single din? if so it's pretty straight forward, otherwise you have to remove trim

      or
shows you how to pull everything out, so you just find what you need to access behind the h/u

yes just single din, having trouble getting stock player out though -.- does that empty box above it just pull out?
So iso plug is same shape as existing harness but just needs pins swapped around?

You still will need to modify the wiring unless there is a patch lead.

you need removal keys, if you have 2 holes each side of the unit
Saab VW Mazda Audi Factory Radio Removal Tool Keys | eBay
Otherwise just ebay search vw radio removal keys

If you make an improvised version of the removal keys, the clips sometimes break, so only way to get it out is to really yank at it with the keys pushed all the way in.

Yeah the iso is basically aftermarket radio plug translated to euro plug's.
As previously said, just make sure you switch the power and the ground locations

Does anyone have a wiring chart for what colour wire is what for the existing eurovox harness?
And will I need an antenna adaptor?

OK, so i've finally gotten around to taking the head unit out. I'm wondering what these two things are? im pretty sure the thing with the pink and black wires is just to suppress electrical disturbance from alternator and such? But not sure what the first picture is, it looks like its been wired in by a previous owner maybe? it just has a fuse inside it. It appears to be tapped into they yellow wire going into the eurovox head unit which from my research is the amp trigger

Neither of those look like they are original.
                              1st is aftermarket fuse older.
No idea on the 2nd. Take off the foam and look for a part number etc.

Stock has an ISO connector, follow it back a bit and there is another connector.
