  • GTI Suspension different to standard golf ????

hey all as the title says , is the GTI suspension different to a standard model golf ??? mainly sway bars and springs ??? if so how and can you fit it to a standard golf ?

    any information would be great

    thanks

size of sway bars are the same I believe, layout is the same.
springs in the gti are 15mm lower or so, not sure if the struts are the same length/damping.
but yes, bolt in exactly the same.

basically all the mk4s are the same, and can swap tons of stuff like you mention.
its only different when you get from FWD to AWD cars, even then SOME things can be swapped in without too many issues

Perfect thats pretty much what I needed to know , is the spring rate different in the gti And are they worth putting in my standed golf with some good shocks ??

not sure about spring rates, I imagine a bit firmer.
if you can get them for free/cheap yeah sure.
other wise go down the path of eibach/h&R springs or coils for a 30-50mm drop

iv seen people put a low km set of gti springs in a highish km standard mk4, and the car actually got higher due to the original springs having sagged so much and the gti springs being still fresh and perky.
this can also apply to the 30-50mm drop springs I mentioned, you might only get a 15mm drop or so out of them if your stock springs have sagged so much.

mk4s had a STUPID amount of wheel gap from stock on super soft springs

ok then thanks for that , i think i might just buy some after market springs and some good shocks, i dont wanna lower it much as my sump all ready scrapes on just about every speed bump i go over with and its all factory suspension with 150xxx k's on it

i was going to go coilovers but it is my daily driver after all and i dont think i really need them

in a 1.6/1.8/2.0 your sump shouldnt be touching the road regardless of how low you are. subframe and dog bone mount hang much lower.
            Cup kit should ride nice

You obviously haven't got on your hands and knees and had a look ???????
VW probably sold more G4 sumps than any part for that model.
                Go ask your insurance company.
I'd get a sump guard first.

every mk4 iv looked under (other then VR) it sits higher.
my own car included, hence why iv never bother bothered with a sump guard even when the car is basically touching the ground.
sure if you hit an awkward shaped bump you could get it up to the sump, but thats not going to happen often

that's strange, at my lowered height I don't get any sump damage on my mk4 gti :S

kings are more likely to be the opposite and boaty from what iv seen (commodores)
