  • Which ECS Clutch - V5 5-speed

    Hi,

I've looked at as many ECS/clutch threads as I can find, but haven't found one relating to my car, engine/gearbox combination. Sorry if this is a repost, but I have looked.

My clutch has been slipping for a while, it's a DWF and not worth the money to replace if I have to go for the OEM unit (quotes between $3000 and $3800). The clutch has shuddered since I've owned the car, so I'm guessing something has been wrong with it all along, but 100,000kms later it has started slipping and is still shuddering, so I think it's finally dead.

I spoke to ECS Tuning about a SMF replacement kit, but because the V5 Front Wheel Drive wasn't released in the US, they weren't sure whether any of their kits would fit. They gave me the email address of an Australian contact, but he hasn't responded to the email I sent earlier this week. Can anyone tell me if any of the kits will fit? The Engine and gearbox codes in the manual are AGZ and EBS (110kw 2.3 litre V5 with a 5 - speed manual).

The ECS Website obviously won't let me enter my model and engine/gearbox combination, but the person I spoke to said this doesn't mean they won't have something to fit. Thanks in advance for your help.

Thanks for this info Simon, and thanks Seb. Got a clutch kit (solid flywheel) from Seb within 2 days of calling him, dropped my car off at Peninsula AutoHaus yesterday, picked it up today and it's perfect. For $1350 (less than VW Dealer quoted for labour) my car drives better than it has in the 3 years I've owned it. Saw the old parts, the flywheel had hotspots and cracks in it, apparently due to the slipping not my bad driving. Don't know if it was just because my old clutch was so shagged, but the new clutch is about a million times lighter than the old one, the car drives completely differently - in a good way.

$550 for the clutch, $800 for fitting V's $2100 for the DMF clutch and $1100-1500 for fitting (quoted from Barloworld) - thanks again guys.
