Its every 4 years or 90K, or anytime the belt has to come; off like water pump.
It is a good idea to do the water pump and tensioner at the same time, given the low cost parts vs the high cost of labour.

      105,000kms or 7 years.

And yeah, do the whole lot. Belt, pulleys, tensioner, and water pump.

Hate to hijack an old thread, but what would one expect to pay (including labour) for replacing timing belt, water pump, tensioner etc on an '02 2.0 MK4?

Anywhere between $700 and $1000 is apparently reasonable.

I dont trust this schedule . You look at a new VW and at best it will have 5 years 100,000km warranty . The 1.8ts are an old engine , if a timing belt breaks there is no way VW would cover it . Its only 2 years warranty on new parts anyway . Stick to the revised original schedule of 4 years 90k km on older engines , if your modified you should consider doing it more often ...
