Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • cleaning aircon pipes

My aircon pump died and spread metal through my mk4 gti air con system. Ive been told I need to replace the condensor and I think the evaporator cylinder thing? I have a new pump to go on but unsure on the best way to clean the pipes without spending thousands.

This happened to me on my Forester and it required a new compressor ($1500), condensor, hoses, TX valve, clamps, seals and rings and cleaning & regassing. Labour was about $600. Total came to $2800 with 2 year warranty using genuine parts. I hope the Golf costs less.

Ryan, I have a condensor and a lot of the pipes from my A3 in the shed mate. You can have them for the cost of postage. Might be more economical to replace rather than clean out. If you miss some crap it could create further damage?

If you want me to dig them out and take photos let me know. I wrecked the car in 2008 and the aircon was serviceable at the time.

I'll dig it all out and sort a picture shortly. I am happy to box it, it's a fair drive. I am sure it would be cheaper than the petrol but it would be wednesday probably before you get the bits.
