Space-saver spare conversion for Mk4 R32

Has anyone converted their air compressor and bottle of sealant to a space-saver spare and jack?

I've seen the following photo that looks really neat (I like the OE look).

What Mk4 jack is suitable for use with the R32 - I've been told by Volkswagen Spare Parts that there is more than one part number applicable?

I'm interested particularly in hearing from someone who has successfully jacked their Mk4 R32 with a Volkswagen '1J' or '8L' jack and have not experienced damage to the seam / floor-pan, nor have experienced damage to the side skirts caused by the jack-screw.

I think that quozl had one in his before he converted it for race use. The spare he had in his didn't fit over the front brakes though so you'd have to swap a rear tyre to the front and put the space saver on the back.
I noticed that the MkV has a space saver in it. Wonder if this and the associated parts will fit in the boot well. One of the VW dealers on the stand said that this one does fit over the front brakes on the MkV.

From what I read somewhere - The space saver + jack from an Audi TT should do it.

(But yeah, won't fit over the front brakes - So you'll be changing two tyres if you ever get a flat on the front)

i jacked mine with a jack from MK4 2L sport and it didnt do any damage. My frieand wanted to see how would my wheels look on his car
I think you can get one from EIP, but they say the same, it doesn't fit over the front brakes. I guess its still better than anything. I was thinking about it but my car does not leave the city (except the occasional cruise to the hills) so if i had a flat, RAC would tow it for free

I can say that a Mk5 '1K' jack won't do - it expects the seam to protrude significantly further from the floor-pan - I envisage using this jack would push your floor-pan in slightly.

There's a tool for every job, and there's the right tool for the right job.

Foam tool box - S3 quattro - 8L3 012 109 F

Spacesaver spare wheel (3 1/2 J x 18H2) - 1J0 601 027 M 03C

Alloy jack is 8L0 011 031 A

(Australian metal jack is: 1J0 011 031 F)

You have to buy the space saver tyre which from memory was the dearest part at around $350.00 and yes if you get a flat on the front you will have to swap a rear to the front and put the space saver on the rear.

Are there any other differences between the jacks? -- are they exactly the same design, just constructed of different metals?

(or perhaps the alloy jack is a tad bulkier due to alloy being somewhat weaker than steel?)

Does either jack fit in the aforementioned S3 quattro foam tool box?

Just the material, I had the Alloy Jack.

Yes it fits in the foam tool box.

I have a quote for these parts from Audi. It's not going to be a cheap exercise but I'm going to it anyway as I'd rather drive home at 60km/h than rely on dodgy foam or have to have the car towed. Al can you double confirm that these are the right parts?

No problem, you just need to get the foam insert that is in the picture in my earlier post on page one of this thread to store the jack and tool kit in the centre of the space saver, you can also get the cover and screw to secure it all in the wheel well.
