any post that is of a flaming nature or just plain digging for a fight will be deleted.SIMPLE.

i too would like a few more answers on here on the pros cons of each chip, characteristics etc etc

ive searched and couldnt really find anything conclusive, seems that alot of the threads on here are full of mindless banter rather than anythign useful

possible idea for a FAQ/sticky topic or similar...

This is a hard topic to discuss as everyone has their own views and they are also rightfully proud of the product they have bought. Unfortunetly - untill the day comes when some one gets a dyno for a day, runs their car and other cars with varying mods making a few passes with each chip there will never be any conclusive answer to this question.

This is not a bagging post but some chip tuners can flash the MK4 ECU. They can't be done through the OBD port on AGU engines.

I have the capability to do it.

            Nuff said.

not being rude dude, but anyone can do it with the right software..
if you have and can, why havent you released a chip? as im sure the apr, giac, oettinger, revo put no research into making the chip run accordingly....

saying that, tuner shops in germany, uk and other euro countries and im sure the states too offer custom programs to suit your mods or the packages you buy from them too. however not a large enough market here for that, you can go stand alone but thats your choice again as the customer..
                What’s behind you doesn’t matter..

I don't think this is going to happen. Mainly because the pros & cons for each type of chip depend very much on who you are talking to, whether they are selling these chips (or an agent for them), which chip 'clique' you happen to belong to.

Suffice it to say that there is a general (very general) agreement that the 4 top-rated chips available in Australia (and not in any particular order) are:

                  - Oettinger
                  - APR
                  - GIAC, and
                  - REVO.

Outside those four ... well ... I wouldn't venture ... the decision is entirely yours though.

Well said Dave mate. But personally i would venture, there is more out there. Just got to do the research, but you will find there is really cheap and nasty ones but most will step up to the plate depending on what you are after. If you need warp speed then a simple chip just isnt going to to do it, it is the starting block of course for the smoothness and erradicating the factory EEC regulated map, but you will have to dig very deep to get massive gains.
                    Cheers

hate to tell you dave, but the oldest "chip" company selling in australia has to be OETTINGER,then obviously MTM.I know personally ,APR was still in a old garage building when MTM was chipping a4 1.8t's by the truck load.

I don't think you would be able to get 200kw out of a chip you would ome close but I don't think 200kw.

Being said that there is a guy on vortex Aussie Jimmy that has something like 150kw at the wheels but thats with cam port work and chip, alot more work than just a chip.

Maybe if you went stand alone you would have a better chance

The MKIV R32 came out with 177kw (flywheel) if memory serves ... naturally aspirated. Chipped with even a reasonable sized turbo should get you to 200kw, shouldn't it?
