  • GIAC Chips

Ok Guys I've heard you and the Vortex guys raving about these chips. Unfortunately no one here in NZ knows about these. I found a local company that does these and are actually cheaper than the tuners we usually use here. I'm keen to give these guys a go and be a pioneer here in NZ but unfortunately i haven't driven a GIAC chipped car so don't know what's it like.

Do you guys have the flashloader/ multi-programs?
    how does it work?
    what programs are available?
    What do you guys boost?
what's HP am i looking at getting with a stock K03 turbo? etc.

More info. i can get the better I'll take a drive out 2 these guys at some stage and have a chat and see what's it all about.
The main thing I'm worried about is the fact that these guys are the only GIAC dealer in NZ and i'm worried if they stuff up something there's no other support. Hopefully going out there and meeting them will ease some of these fears.

It would be soldered in and also getting something around the visinity of 140kw@ flywheel.

Thats the page that it has all the software apps you can do, something like that anyway. Theres a start hopefully the mk4 guys will be able to tell you more.

since we never get to the end of chip questions...maybe its about time to start and sticky a chip thread so noobs can find it instantly instead of asking the same questions week after week?

All chips for the Mk4s are solder in. Each manufacture has its merits. Whichever of the top ones you choose, you should be happy with.

from now on,all posts in relation to CHIP questions/threads will have to be 100% in relation to the original post.
ANY post that is deemed OFF TOPIC or stirring in any way shape or form will be deleted.
personally,im sick of CHIP questions as all the trouble we seem to get is in relation to this type of mod.

The mk4s are definately soldered in aswell as the mk3 golfs, however the new mk5 golf is through the COM port.

As far i as i know all Mk4's need a chip 2 be soldered in BUT once an aftermarket chip has been fitted u can upload maps through the Vagcom port. I watched a local tuning company chip my friend's GTi. Rather interesting to watch

                        Hey Fiz,

back on this side of the ditch "qta4" had a GIAC chip in his 1.8T MK1. His was installed onto header pins which had to be soldered onto the ECU board first. I put new pins onto his board when he got a new chip with his bigger turbo. As far as I know he still has the old GIAC chip though.

Not true mate, some tuners hardware can do the flash without soldering. I don't have to open up the ECUs on MK4s/Audi A3s.

Aye, does this depend on the yr? have the ecu's changed between an early model mk4 and a later model? Because my '99 can't be flashed nor did a 2000 model GTI.
