  • R32 cold air intake?

    Hi guys, I'm looking into getting a cold air intake for R32 from ECS.

    I had a read on a couple of other forums I found about the ECS intakes and I found quite a few people saying you need to be careful with them as you could end up with water in your engine, which I'm not too keen on.

    I was just wondering if anyone has any experience with these and encountered any problems with them or it has been smooth sailing? Also if anyone has any other brands that work well, let me know!

    Plenty of guys all over Aus are running CAIs which position the filter quite low. As in the ECS, Carbonio and a few other CAIs.
    I haven't hear of anyone in Australia having hydrolocking issues, however my uncle drove his stock Alfa 147 GTA through a big puddle and hydrolocked it :S And I have heard a few stories of people overseas having hydrolock issues (albeit not many).

    I however didn't want to take the risk as my .:R32 is a daily. So I purchased the Simota Racing Air Intake from PPCGB. Good price and avoids any chance of Hydrolocking and has definitely increase response, and torque, not sure about power though. Although it definitely revs/breaths better across the rev range and makes a great noise.

      R32 cold air intake?

      Grab a Forge Intake. I've installed a couple of them and haven't found an issue with them. They also sound great too.

        I know of at least one R32 in Australia that suffered hydrolock after ingesting water. Expensive mistake. Of course, you should never drive through standing water to start with for safety reasons.

        You get a good induction noise with a pod filter/CAI, but it's questionable as to whether you really get any more power on an NA engine (is the stock airbox/filter the bottleneck in your engine's breathing ability?). You need to weigh up the risk vs reward and decide which way to go.

          I have a GruppeM CAI on my R32. The filter is high up behind the left light. It also adds a bit of carbon fiber bling

            I'd go the GruppeM intake like greg said. It's fully enclosed and they look freakin awesome if you ask me

                The Gruppe M kit is horridly expensive, less money can be spent for same/similar gains.

                Running a CAI is fine unless you plan on doing going scuba diving... On most CAI's the bottom of the filter will sit 2-3inches above the plastic undertray. Which results in decent clearance from road level.

                The combination of the undertray, a sealed grille insert & wheel liner will keep the filter area relatively dry in raining conditions, surface puddles won't cause issues either. So again, unless you go scuba-diving you won't have problems. But as Manaz said, you should avoid crossing flooded roads regardless.

                Acknowledging worst case scenario of hydrolock, I think people get too worked up about it...

                I run the Neuspeed CAI on my R32 now and ran the Carbonio CAI on my old R32 without issue.

                  I have a lot to look at now and a lot more options! All of this info has helped heaps. I guess it's time to start shopping around and comparing prices.

                  As my R32 is a daily, I'm aiming towards a CAI that is placed high, but I have to weigh up all of the prices as well.
