  • So i want to by a Mk4

    Hi,

I recently sold my civic turbo and was looking at buying a GTi, basicly i was a euro car thats still quick.
Had a quick look around the site, seeing what peoples mods are.

I was thinking of Doing the exhaust, chipping it,FMIC and getting a EBC and upping the boost.

I read thats its and expensive mod getting a FMIC in. Any reason this is?

I was wanting ATLEAST 160kw atw as this is what the civic was capable of. Is this easy attained with these cars?

    Alex

quick answer is no you will need to upgrade the turbo to get any where near 160kw atw, even with a std chipped gti you will only see max 125kw atw if your lucky, its a lot more $$$ to get power out of a euro car.
mk4 the mods begin for round 2 hahahha

Civic turbo ? Since when Honda made a turbocharged civic ?

Get a GTI, put a GIAC map on it, and then we'll talk. you don't need any of that other shiznit you mentioned, it is that good.

You don't know probably, but you drive torque and not KW, the GTI will have over 300Nm after chipping, that is ALOT for a 1200 Kg car.

      Good luck kid.

That sort of power/torque to the wheels is pointless unless you get it to the ground as well.

how good is the drive on the GTi's or do you need to start looking at upgraded diffs as well?

No point of an EBC if you have it chipped - Boost will sit at ~20pounds and you won't be able to increase it much further. (Larger tuners can have different programs installed on your ECU for you switch between though - ie, stock, valet, chipped, race fuel)

You can get a $100 cooler and dodge it up, but to get a thin cooler with decent flow/pressure drop you'll have to pay more.

For 160ish kw you'll want to bolt on a Ko4 (~150kw) (Same size turbo, larger compressor wheel so its a straight swap)

Get Adrian to take you for a spin in his GTI. 220fwkw will put a smile on your face. Or Get Neil to take you for a spin in his. Hes just chipped it and put a TIP in it.

What mods were done for 220kw?

                      What is a tip?

Turbo inlet Pipe. The std one tends to get sucked in when used on chipped cars, the turbo creates a fair depression. The after market TIPS are much more resistant to the problem.

You would be looking at something from Garret to do that power.

what you have done on your previous cars....forget it..this is different.. my advice for you is,when you are ready.come to our gtg or cruise and see the cars in action.
there will be heaps of people whispering in your ear as there is alot money to be made from "chips" and certain mods, but just look at DUB 20V's black golf running a haltech(and previous red gti),as mentioned before.thats where I would be starting..at least as your mods progress ,so does your level of tune.

when my car is back ill be happy to take you for a spin and im sure 99gti and dub20v will also!!!

ahhh,im only in kingsford!! come past some time!!

Entrance stage left and only slightly drunk tonight

There are x amount of ways of achieving x kw's from your car.

My car has been done the 'bolt on' way. Everything I have done to date has been an off the shelf mod with little to no down time. This has been an important factor for me because without transport I'd be up Duff creek without a paddle. I'm very happy with my car although it's yet to stack up against others at a dyno day - something I'm not in a great rush to do. If my scenario had been different so would my outcome.

For example Adrians current golf. Words can not describe this car and it's a credit to adrian and also the previous owner. Adrian also shared the same vision as the previous owner and they were happy to have the car off the road for a significant more time than mine was to have the haltech ECU tuned. This car has an instance stauts on road that oozes attitude and demeanor. Plain and simply - this is the most outrageous front wheel drive I have been in. One hit of the 'FUN' button and this thing takes off quicker than a chewowa on heat. As I have said - Adirans car with it's larger Garret GT28R turbo is off it's nut! and is more a piece of art than it is a car. Now Adrian has taken hold of it he has started to apply the finishing touches the car deserves - as costly as they may be. It is currently making it's transition from roar warrior to road ruler. It gives excitment to those who only understand a little about this scene.

Ps. I'm only in Pennat Hills and more than happy to take you for a quick squirt if you want. Just drop me a PM.
