  • VR6 24v Oil Sump change

    Hi guys !
as some of you may have heard .. the sump died on the Bora and i already have a new sump ready to be put on ..

wondering about the "Better" type of sealant to use .. as from what i have researched ..
it appears that there is no gasket ? please correct me if im wrong ..

also .. does anyone happen to know the torque settings for the bolts on the pan ?

    thanks,
    Sam

I followed this diy VWVortex.com - DIY Oil Pan on 2.0L MKIV, done correctly finally! I used some grey gasket sealer a mate had, i cant remember the brand off the top of my head. just a small amount right around the edges. DONT put too much on that will squeeze out everywhere and get into the engine. Don't want a big clump of sealant running around in your engine! Didn't torque the bolts. Just went as tight as i could by hand. Pretty easy job. There are a couple of bolts on the tranny side that were a pain in the A/hole. You will find out what I'm talking about! haha

    Edit:
    might of been this one.

You can buy hex head sockets to use with a ratchet and extension that will make your life easy. Probably about $25 for a full kincrome set, but I'm sure there are cheaper sets, or even individual sets around
