Sure plastidip is easy to remove.. But if you get a defect... They will look at more than just your taillights and then it will be more than just a case of peel off and defect free. If you think the rest of your car is sweet then go for it...

Even if you can easily remove the cover, you are still going to get the fine, defect notice AND have to clear the defect notice.

I really can't understand why you would want to reduce the ability of someone else being able to see you are stopping or to just see you in the dark.

Something that might not be so nice is that you will probably find your insurer not willing to cover you if you are involved in an accident. Also any other engineering certificates will probably also be invalid. I know that when I used to write them there was a condition that the certificate was only valid if on inspection the vehicle was found to be roadworthy. If you are involved in an accident you might not be able to get to the damaged vehicle to change anything, and then you expose yourself to potentially tampering with evidence.

Now if accessory manufacturers were truly serious, they would try something like LCD lenses that cleared just before the lights (brake or tail) were activated. Of course, reflectors would have to be clear all the time.
