    Hi all,

Starting to get a few knocking noises from mainly the front, over speed humps and pot holes and seeing im up to the 160k km mark im guessing its time for some new suspension bushes. Has anyone had any experience with this? Guessing my sway bar links and steering links will be first as steering doesn't feel as responsive as it used to.

Had the car on the hoist and none looked overly worn or damaged but I'm not 100% sure what to look for. Anyone changed any, if so which ones?

    Cheers

ECS has a few different bush replacement kits. Manaz ran a group buy a few years back and a lot of people got the refresh kits.

things like control arm bushes aren't that expensive from the dealer (strangely enough...)

I used to get like a squeak sound from the front when ever I go over speed humps. Went to the mechanic and my control arm / swaybar bushings were all worn out so replace it and since then its all good. But recently Ive been hearing similar squeaks again from the front.
gotta find out which bushings again!. I'm guessing that yours could be the top mount bushings on your shocks...since you're gettin the knocking sound.

Most likely sway bar mate, the bushes get very hard and dry as the exhaust is right next to them, we used to use non wearing bushes called glacier bushes but only work really well on newish swaybars, latest golf gti I done I measured up the I'd of the bar, it was worn 1mm approx from factory size. I cleaned up the corrosion till smooth and shiny measure up I'd and ordered poly super pro d bushes. They come I several sizes so don't be afraid to go overboard on the clean up. If your mechanic has used standard Vw ones hey don't last. Noise related to this is likened to an old bed spring

Replaced mine with those from the Audi TT - seems to be stiffer to the original - did not want to go poly - too hard.

I just did all the control arm, suspension and sway bar ones. Bought mine from eBay UK as it worked out cheaper for the product even after postage, came pretty quickly to.
