  • HELP - Fixing a door lock

    Hey guys,

After some advice. I have a 2002 VW Golf and one of the springs (unlocking direction) in the front drivers side door locking cylinder is broken (or come disconnected). ie, when I go to unlock the door, the key does not spring back to the central position.

I have taken the door locking cylinder out but am now stuck at how to open the cylinder itself. Can this be done? I don't really want to go and purchase a new cylinder lock and have a different key just to open the front door.

Any advice you can provide would be great!

    Thanks,

    HT

On a MK4 its a one piece unit, it needs to be replaced complete... the older polos and golf 3 used to be able to get a kit...The only good news is that you order it via the VIN number so the barrel that comes is cut to your key! yeh... No need for 2 different keys... go to a dealer parts department with your VIN and they will order one from Singapore to match your key and then you can pop it back in yourself.....VDUB.....

As Hillbilly says check for forum anyway as may be some people have sourced parts to fix them "after market", I'm not sure, dealer is a replacement part only but there's loads of people out there fixing stuff that VW won't do......there may be a "fixing kit" some where in the world.....
