Well - I've been a bit quiet of late partly due to having to pay for rego and insurance again but that doesn't mean I have slowed down at all.
Some of you will remember me speaking about upgrading the turbo. After much ummming I have decided the K04 is the route I will go and it should happen in the next couple of weeks I also have a nice pollished intake manifold that will be going on and hopefully a few other minor things in the engine bay - more on that at a later date.
For those who are keen to know, or are pondering doing the upgrade - I actually priced getting a K04 sent in from O/S thinking I might be able to save myself a few bucks. I already have the APR program on my car, so to upgrade to their stage 2 (K04, 4 bar FPR, remap) is A$2.5k. I could have got a K04-001 from o/s shipped but that would have ended up being over a grand by the time it landed and then I would have had to pay another $700 for the tune plus a FPR. For the sake of an extra couple of hundred bucks, I'd rather pay the difference knowing I'll have the waranty and support of someone local.
By the time you start paying import taxes and all the rest of that crap I just didn't think it was feasable. That then made me think that I might as well go for a bigger turbo. After doing the homework into getting it all fitted, listening to experiences of those who have run larger hairdryers and considering the feasability and suitability for what I want out of the car the K04 is the obvious decision.

Sound decision making Neil. The extra money needed to go for more than 250 crank HP is tremendous.
Why not have a look at a GT28RS turbo, there is one running on a 1.8t AEB over here in Nz with 10psi it's currently running 170wkw. Huge i know, the guy will be running around 18psi, all this power in a stripped out MK1 golf. Nuts and hell fun i say.
They seem to be getting really good power from the GT28RS.
