That budget won't go far (especially getting a shop to do it)
I would say you are better off looking/waiting for a decent car to become available
2012.1 Skoda Octavia VRS DSG Wagon - Carbonio cold air intake and pipe - HPA Motorsports BBK 355mm rotors 6 pot calipers
APR Stage II ECU - APR 3" exhaust down pipe & high flow catalyst
APR/HP Roll bars - Eibach springs and Bilstien shocks
Supaloy lower control arms - Enkei 18*8 Wheels

No not yet this is just through emails to him

I am just wanting to find out were I can get it rebuilt before I commit to buying it....

I think it will need the head doing and possibly the bottem end......

              Ah okay,

$5-6k won't cover repairs if you want it done right....

You'll be looking at about $2,000 in parts and labour just to do timing chain. Given that the box has to come out and the kms on the car, you'll almost certainly need to replace clutch & flywheel which will tack another around 1500 in parts. Unless of course it's been done recently??

I'd be worried about the driveline also...

You'll be looking at roughly $2k to ship the car from QLD to WA via train, not sure what a normal transport would cost?

I reckon as above, save your money and get something in better condition

Good luck. Plenty of other MKIV's out there and you gotta remember, rego, insurance and all the other fun costs.

Knowing that guys, is that still too much for him to go in on? Say $7k buy, $6k rebuild?

You'd honestly have to view the car yourself and then have someone decent inspect the car before you even considered a) paying $7k & b) pre-emtping a $6k) budget.

To give a bit of perspective, I just replaced the clutch, flywheel, timing chain assembley, rear main seal, cam position sensors and crank sensor and that alone was approx a $4k ordeal including parts, labour and associated shipping costs.
