  • rough gear changes

I just replaced my dogbone mounts with polyurethane ones and now my gear changes are much more jerky. especially when changing down. I noticed the front bushing on the mount(the round one) is split. Would this be the cause? Should I replace it with a polyurethane one or will a normal one do? I also noticed one of the top mounts looked a bit worse for ware. Is their a good upgrade for these mounts?

    Cheers,
    Neil

I reckon if you give it a day or 2, you'll get used to the new set up and won't notice anything different.

I have a race stiffness one on my S3 and don' have any problems.

I changed it a month ago and it still doesn't feel right. Does this look like too much movement?

Any split bushings should be replaced.

Stiffening the dogbone does remove flex between the gearbox and the chassis - so you will notice increased transmission of vibration, and it will feel a little more mechanical.

                  Manaz.

When changing down gears I can feel the whole engine/trasmision move which makes the whole car bounce! I thought the replacement dogbone inserts would lessen this not make it worse?

Went to VW to get the front bushing in the dogbone mount turns out they can only replace the whole mount ( over $200!!!).
Does any one know where to find replacement bushes that aren't poly?
                    or any other solution?

Swap yours with another that's not died already. ECS and other spares suppliers will be able to get you one. Have a look on ebay even.
