Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Water Pump

Hey everyone, has anyone had their waterpump replaced on either turbo or non turbo?? What were the symptoms??

Well this is what happened, driving along northern rd when the centre display starts flashing coolant coolant - two seconds later STOP STOP STOP!!

So i pulled straight over opend the bonnet (had two mechanics with me) and we thought it was the head gone or cracked, so i got the car towed (believe me not a pretty sight).

The golf is at the mechanic now, good news is there is no oil in the water or water in the oil and still starts up like it ususally does. Although heats up really quickly and tells me to turn engine off.

So my mechanic has tried without the thermo and realised its now not pumping water, so were hoping its the water pump.

Has anyone else gone through this episode and what is this going to do to my pockets hahaha..

The waterpump has a plastic impellar that parts ways with the shaft. 99.9 % that is the problem. Do the cambelt at the same time.
    Good luck

Its highly recommended to have it changed when you have the timing belt done as they can fail.

      Some places don't do/suggest this however.. :|

              water pump

it could have been my mechanic -john at malibu? was the waterpump - snapped in 3 places.

He tried to get a metal one but vw only have the plastic ones. Tried to get metal or somethin a bit stronger but they couldnt get it. $88 for the waterpump and at the same time i got the timing belt dont.

Happy to have the golf back on the road - total of 7 days without it!! Haha.

              Long 7 days...

I find out tomorrow how much its going to cost me with labour etc - not looking forward to that!!
