Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Indicator Issue's

Just this morning, turned indicator on, turned the corner, it switched itself off as per usual then started making the ticking noise in a random and frequent sequence. Stayed like that for a bit then I turned indicator on again it turned off then came back on. doesn't seem to make indicators flash, just making the ticking noise?

    Anyone know why?

    Cheers

    Pretty common mk4 thing.
Can either be a dirty connection on the stalk or hazards bottom, or the relay is stuffed.
    Mines doing it too.
Pretty confident mines the stalk so going to shot some connection cleaner down the hole

My S3 went the same way and I pulled the switch apart and fixed it. There's a relay in there for the hazards and another of the indicators.

You can work it out with the lid off by switching the hazards on and observing. I clean the contacts on the other relay.

Been good for 18 months now (famous last words). Hardest part was getting the switch out. Needed the stereo out first and no keys for it.

          Vortex for links ha.
I narrowed mine down to the indicator by removing the hazards switch fuse, clicking was still there so assumed it would be the indicator side of things

Happened to me twice now but fixed both times with some contact cleaner where the indicator stalk goes into the steering wheel column. Can't hurt.

You could always do what I did. Nothing. My Bora used to do it all the time. Got over 250,000k's on it now. It just stopped doing it after a while. Although as Gav said famous last words.

Hazard switch is also your flasher can on these, it can go pear but as some have mentioned the stalk switch can go bad. Id be looking at the easy hazard switch first.
                  Cheers\
