  • Dumb question: Where do you guys buy general parts from?

As a nasty foreign devil, I've realized that most of the places I bought VW/Audi parts from back home are… somewhat less convenient.

Where should I be looking for decent prices on oil filters, air filters, thermostats, so on and so forth? I can get stuff on ebay from the UK, of course, but for slightly faster service I'm looking for suggestions

Locally, I've found Imparts to be reasonable in comparison to VW dealers. ie. cabin air filter $10.50 - local dealer $40.75

Ok, cool! Do they sell direct to public?

I'm interested to know too. I get oil filters, suspension bushes and OEM things of that nature from my local dealer, but their prices are highway robbery and they take forever to order things in.

I get some stuff from eBay (window mechanism repair kits - saved about 75%!), some from German Auto Parts, ECS Tuning, or Awesome GTI.

Another place would be HSY - I think they are Australia-wide - hsy.com.au

I get a bit from ebay, but for things like filters etc, Autobarn can order them in, and frankly the quality is fine. I think we get a bit caught up in oem this and that

                +1 for HSY

The Imparts I've called don't sell to the public, I've had to order through a mates' workshop (before it closed up) to get parts through Imparts... HSY, no questions, no probs.

Guys try Autobarn for parts like filters, oils, thermostats, some radiator hoses, etc. We have a program on our spare parts computers that can look up cars using the vin number or engine code.

I have been able to get cv joints, all filters, spark plugs, oxygen sensor and few other bits through work cheaper then the dealer.

If anyone wants a hand or more info just ask !
