Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Hmm, it's hard to tell from here. The only thing I can really notice is that the electrical plug (left side down near the lower coolant pipe) seems like it's a different shape on the two.

You'll be able to fit yours into this one. They should be the same thread.

The radiator core is 605mm between the crimped ends. The inlet and outlet have 370mm between centres. I also have at least on of the hoses and probably both if I looked. So with them I'd be surprised if you could make it fit.

Is your leaking? You could just take it off and bend it straight if it isn't. That would be free!

I did that with the rad on my Ibiza after it got reversed into.

I regret to inform that I have had an accident. My car is a silver 2001 Golf 1.6. Just the standard GL 5sp 5door. I have third party insurance, so I'm left to my own devices as far as getting the car fixed up. I rear ended somebody and now I'm looking for some advice on how I should go about sourcing replacement parts. I will most likely do the majority of the labour with my father so I'm just looking for parts.

I'm mainly looking for non-retail parts as I don't know if I'd be able to afford parts from a dealership or something like that. So I guess that means I'm mostly looking for parts from wrecks.

As far as I know right now, the parts I need are a hood
car accessories , grill, bumper, both headlights (maybe), radiator and auxiliary fan(s). I'm not positive on any other internal parts as of yet as we haven't got the hood up yet, the latch is jammed so we're probably going to have to cut it open.

The electrics work and the engine runs fine, although the power steering is gone and the coolant has leaked out from where the radiator was damaged.

I'm a little lost at the moment and don't really know where to start as far as finding all of these parts. I only really know that if I try and get new parts, I'll be looking at some extortionate prices. Last time I bought a part from a local VW dealership, it was a coolant temperature sensor and they charged me $80.

        Thanks in advance
        .
Sad to hear about you accident. Are you still looking for these replacement parts?

Unfortunately the actual surrounding area for the pipe has been broken off.

I'll have to let you know about buying the part, as at the moment our view is shifting more towards the possibility of getting another car.

As for this one, we will either try and sell the whole thing for parts or a fixup project, or start to pull it apart ourselves and make as much money as we can towards a new car.

Also, anyone on this forum interested in parts or a full car minus the damaged bits, get in contact with me. When I'm a little more clear about the best options, I may post a separate thread for the car/parts.

Just for a rough idea, everything from the car is available, apart from the damaged parts which is pretty much the hood, latch, radiator, radiator support, a/c compressor and dryer, headlights grille and bumper..

All other body parts, interior trim, engine, mech, etc. is available. If you're interested in the whole thing, just shoot me an offer and I'll take it into consideration.

                Yes it is!

However, at the moment, we are trying to sell the full car. I have it listed on eBay now. If it doesn't sell, I would consider taking it apart, but only if I got enough requests so that I knew I could make enough money from it.

If you want a look at the listing, here it is.
