Always better to buy a faster car to start with.
And welcome to the forum

What does "dont have much money" mean ? There are some things you can do but power increases are minimal

its manual, well at the moment we have orded coil-overs and a bigger exhaust for it, he doesn't want to run a turbo on it yet but we were wondering if there is much else we can do to get more power, well he has money but doesn't want to fork out big dollars like 3 grand on it yet,
but as i said before this is the first vw i have ever worked on so i am band new to them and have no knowledge about them what so ever

Well as it's naturally aspirated the amount of money you spend will be disproportionate to the amount of power you'll gain. Honestly if he wanted a performance he should've bought a fast car to start with, otherwise be prepared to spend big bucks.
(Edit: Oops others have already mentioned this)
I'd recommend upgrading all the suspension and having fun with a good handling car.Last edited by kapowww; 27-02-2013, 11:19 PM.

clean it up, get it running nicely. Work the suspension and brakes so whatever you've got power and speed wise can stay with you for longer.
Also, if you or your mate are a bit porky, go on a diet. You'd be surprised what losing 10-15kgs each would do to the performance. Put the car on a diet too and all that weight equals extra speed, which is just as good as extra power.PRUDENCE: 2008 POLO CLUB 9N3, 17s, BODY KIT, LOTS OF MEMORIES. FOR SALE HERE

High flow air filter like a K&N, decent set of high quality HT leads, some iridium spark plus, they seem to help when the cars hot. All relatively inexpensive and will help a little.1993 MK1 CAB ! Work in Progress........
