  • CAI Strange noise

Just installed a CAI on my Mk4 1.8t and when I let my foot off the gas when changing gears it makes a strange fluttering sound. Did a little research(google) and it seems to be that I need to upgrade the DV is this the Case.

This is the sound it makes:- Audi A4 B5 weird Air Intake sound - YouTube (this is not my car)

    Thanks for any replies

Grab yourself a Go Fast Bits or Baileys Plumback Diverter. They will still give you the echo/sound from intake but will hold boost a lot better than other ones inc the forge.
      What’s behind you doesn’t matter..

I get a flutter through the intakes on both my Polo and S3. I know there's nothing wrong with either DV. I am running Forge-a-like ebay specials. I know I am not losing boost on them.

Is you DV an original VW plastic one?

Thats just air being sucked in bouncing around your CAI mate. Used to love the flutter on my 180sx!

if you have a aftermarket and its fluttering then the spring is too tight..or too big.

i dont run one at all... i dont loose boost... maybe the turbo fins might stuff up abit faster but ah well..sounds good

The DV is an original VW plastic one.
I keep reading the noise is compressor surge and it will damage the turbo?

Both mine will be blowing up this week if that's true! LOL

Find out how to test that standard one. Google it. Then even if it is ok consider buying a new aftermarket one anyway.

There is so much talk about this online...I ran no BOV on my 380hp 180sx for year and a bit and no issues.
