  • Alternator pulley seizing

I keep getting an alternator workshop light and the power steering going missing at various times. Pretty sure I need to replace the alternator pulley.

Anyone done this. How difficult? Do I need a special tool.

Car is ..Mk IV 2003 Sport

    Thanks

Slipping drive belt. Check the condition and tension.

I think its in good condition but I will have a close look. Also noticed it happened in the wet so that explanation sounds right.

There you go, don't drive in the rain If you poke around on the net you'll probably find there's a plastic cover that can be bought to stop water off the road getting on the belts.

It would be a VW part.

Will have a look at the belt tomorrow and check the tensioner. Will try to avoid puddles....

The part you want is probably 1J0 825 250 G. Belt cover right front.
About $100 in sensible places, probably more from Australian VW dealers.

On Thursday night I found this part was rubbing on the road. That would explain the noise when reversing onto my driveway.
I managed to poke it back up for now, it needs some new screws.
Note to self *never* reverse into my driveway.
