  • buying an 02 V5 Bora - noise when brakes released (and other things)

    hi

im looking to buy into the world of VW - just checked out an 02 V5 Bora and have some questions.

    1.
major issue is that when the brakes are released it makes quite a noise - similar to that of old worn drum brakes. it only happened when the car was on an incline and the brakes where released, with the noise more from the rear. other than that it stopped ok.

any ideas on what that is?
(fyi i think the car would have been babied more than driven hard)

edit - google turned up 'creep groan', something to worry about? or normal on the bora?

    2.
front passenger door - the very bottom corner of it is turned in. doesnt look to be hit or anything. is this normal? or maybe a manufacturing defect.

    3.
where is the VIN located? couldnt locate it under the bonnet. saw a clear plastic square near the firewall but nothing was there.

    thanks.

    Hi,

I have never experienced the creep groan on my Bora.

Not sure what you mean with regards to the door being turned in, will have another look today.

VIN is located in the engine bay under the plastic square or another place in the boot under the boot carpet on the left. You do not need to remove the spare to see it.

Engine number is a lot more difficult, It is under the back side of the engine. So you may have to rely on the sticker in the boot.

    Good luck !

      hey mate,

check in the boot for the chasis and VIN number plate, thats where mine is located. Its where the spare tyre is

also my bora made weard noises when i hit the breaks, that was when i first brought it. i replaced pads and i havent heard anything since, that may be the issue

The noise is where the suspension is loaded as you are on an incline and to do with your hand-brake being on. As you take the hand-brake off all of the torsion/flexion/resistance is released and some of the energy is emitted as sound.

It seems to come from torsion bars and other suspension components.
My MKIV golf did this as well. I'd say it is nothing to worry about.

          that may just be it!
now i think more about it, it happened only on those occasions after i had just released the handbrake.

          thanks.

last question. for the 02 V5 redbook specs say it has a stacker.
i couldnt see one.. just a single in dash.

is that the case for other V5 owners?

              advice considered and noted.
unfortunately it has cloth and not leather seats.

anyway an offer has been made
