i'd get ecs stage 1 kit (vr6 clutch with g60 single mass flywheel).
costs less than oem clutch even with shipping from the states.
no chatter either. check your clutch fork, mine was bent n cracked

I think I'll go this way too, when the time comes.

As for your Exedy Clutch Kit, it should have contacined the following items;

- Clutch Plate
- Pressure Plate
- Release Bearing (Maybe)

Interesting that the 2.0L Golfs have a 215mm clutch plate.
1.8T are 220mm (99 - 2001.5) and 225mm (2001.5 - 2005)
VR6 228mm
R32 240mm (6spd manual)

When is the usual mileage for clutch failures on Mark IVs? I bought my 2.0 litre at 83000km, and now at 93000km the clutch needs replacing. This seems extremely poor, or is it typical of this model?

And before anyone asks, yes, it was my first car, and I should have been more discerning when I bought it.

Too many variables in the way clutches wear out. Freeway/Country Ks over city ones.

We used to get 200000 miles out of them in the UK sometimes and rarely less than 100000 miles/160000ks.

Shaneths clutch lasted worst out of any I have heard of down under. Then he goes to the drags and stuff, which can be hard on the drivetrain.

Driving style has most to do with clutch wear IMO.

Don't beat yourself up, you couldn't have predicted it.

Yes mine did go on me after 30000 odd km's. The gearbox was replaced after 5000km's with the usual problem for polo's and it never felt right after that. That combine with a track day and a couple of drag days prolly didnt help it either but i put in H100VW's clutch and dam does it feel good.

In my defence its the first clutch to go in 12 years of driving and my other cars copped so much more abuse when i was younger.
