  • Bora V6 4 - Motion Opinions?

    Hi Guys,

My Golf VR6 got written off yesterday due to the incompetence of another driver... I've been in the market for a vr6 for a while now and only bought that car two weeks ago. But seeing as there aren't any for sale in QLD I've been looking into other options.

Just wondering if anyone's got opinions on the 4 motion V6s? There's a nice Black one asking 8 grand with 200000klms 2002 model. What am I looking at in terms of reliability/ servicing/ performance? Any common problems I should be looking out for?

If anyones got opinions on a VR6 Vs Bora 4 motion that would be appreciated too!

    Cheers,
    Max

There's quite a few of us here who have Bora V6 4Motions - they're nice cars, I know of someone who purchased one recently as well (for about the money you're talking, but a 2003 one with fewer km).

Have you considered buying from interstate? 200,000km is a bit high for that money I think (that said, that makes me happy, means I should be able to sell mine with less than 120,000km on it for more - not that I am selling!).

Servicing is probably no different to what your VR6 was - not cheap, but you can get parts at a better price then local RRP if you know where to look (ask me for instance). Mine's been very reliable, though with any car that's ~10 years old, you'll have some wear and tear issues to deal with. The engines are rock solid though, and a 2002+ model will have 150kW and 270Nm, so they're not slow.

And there's always upgrades to consider...
    Nothing to see here...

Gutted for you mate. How bad is it? Have you considered buying it back from the wrecker? Depending on cost it could be worth it. There are always people out there looking for good quality VR6 parts.

If you were closer I'd consider the engine if it was running for my next project.

have a look at this thread : http://www.vwwatercooled.com/forums/...r32-23163.html

the Bora is a bit more refined than the Mk3 . . coming from a MK3 myself .. im quite happy with the Bora .. the BDE VR6 engine produces a nice 150Kw which makes it pretty fun when you want to .. the 6 speed gearbox is nice as well .. dont be fooled tho .. there is no over drive ..

        hope this helps ,

          Bora V6 4 - Motion Opinions?

Yeah it's got some go but you can tell its a bit overweight and fuel efficiency isn't too great either. Parts aren't really a problem as you can get stuff from overseas or donor parts from S3/TT/R32 sometimes.

There's heaps of threads on here if you search and a few problems to look for including Haldex issues and power window brackets..

Hi Guys, appreciate all the replies. Had a drive of the Black one today. Pulls like a train and an absolute dream to drive but probably not the car for me at this stage. In no way is that meant to be an insult to you guys but at 17 I'm probably looking for the zippier VR6 hatch concept (I'll eventually get a ticket I bet...). Beautiful comfy and powerful car to drive but I figure while i'm young I may as well take on the noisy, stiff, old and raw car and then move into a beastly sedan in the future.

Gutted for you mate. How bad is it? Have you considered buying it back from the wrecker? Depending on cost it could be worth it. There are always people out there looking for good quality VR6 parts.

Not very bad at all. Problem is that it forced tthe rail that attaches to the bumper up into the boot floor so that's got a big bubble in it now. Hence the $7000 repair job. I bought it back off them cheap as chips. I would rather sell it off as a whole and hopefully someone can fix it up if they know a bloke that will repair it cheap for them and then get it back on the road (repairable writeoff status atm). But for now I'm waiting till another mint VR6 pops up (which are rare as hens teeth so it might be a while) and then I can take the parts I want and sell it off after that. Engine is good but it needs the timing chain done...

Will let you know what happens, especially if I end up parting it out.

Theres no problem with a bora at 17, I'm only 18 and I'm loving mine. its great for winding up all my mates in their cars cos they can't keep up. Not that we ever break the speed limit or anything... Its the AWD that wins me over

What are you guys doing with AWD and FWD cars at such a young age? Go for a RWD turbo!

id rather have grip than slide all over. I'll leave the sliding to the commodores
Plus as a P plater cant have a turbo so a v6 bora is as close as possible to that kind of power but still usable.

Because of damn P plate laws. Otherwise I'd be in ownership of a Spec R S15.

Each to there own but in my opinion the bit extra money for a bora is worth every dollar. Put coils and a catback on it if you want to be low stiff and loud.

The main problem I have found with the v6 bora is what the hell do i upgrade to? The isn't much with better performance (and still AWD) with the same comfort level and Electronic aids as the bora below 15k (that i would be willing to be seen driving)

You don't, you upgrade the bora . For example im planning on turboing it or supercharging. Probably the later.
