  • Brighter reverse light bulb?

Hey guys, have any of you fitted a brighter reverse bulb?

The stock one on mk4s are so ****. It only serves as a warning to others that the car is in reverse, and doesn't throw any light onto the street/kerb.

I managed to scrape a wheel last night because I couldn't see the kerb. A bit unhappy about that...

That's all they're designed to do.
    Nothing to see here...

I've been in many other cars where they serve more than one purpose.

How does a reverse bulb light up the kerb where the wheel is?

Have you tried a halogen or xenon? or an additional light

Exact same problem mate. With the rocco's small rear window with factory tint and double seat headrests at the back, I can't see sh*t.
Ordered a pair of CREE LED Reverse Bulbs off ebay. Hope they'll change things for me, or i'd have to spend $800 to get a reverse camera installed.

I'm talking about behind the car mate, so that you can spot the approaching kerb, not right next to the wheel.

After a bit of research I've found this, seems legit: CREE Q5 382 LED REVERSE BULB VW GOLF MK2 MK3 MK4 MK5 | eBay

Here are a couple of photos of the aforementioned bulb. You can see how much brighter the aftermarket one is.

EDIT: Dizzydumb, I just saw your post mate, and I reckon I'll be going down the same route as you

                  Fair enough.

I had a Mk4 Cabrio with really hazy / bubbled tint on it & it always seemed bright enough but everyone is different I guess.

Turn your rear fog on while you're reversing, that'll brighten things up!

I doubt it, given it's illegal for them to be dazzling...
