  • QUESTION: I'm 6"8, will I fit in a Mk4 GTI?

Simple question really & I'm really curious because I want to sell my '03 Audi & build a Stage 3 Mk4 GTI daily in 2013.

The only problem I face is my height. I know that Germans are tall in general (my old man is German also), and thus their cars are relatively spacious. I easily fit into my A4 and the seat isn't even pushed all the way back. Not bad for a 6ft8 bloke right? But when it comes to the VW it all comes down to 'Will I fit?'.

If you were at the QLD Euro Meet last Friday night under the Coles in Upper Mount Gravatt, I was the tall dude driving the avus silver A4 B6 S Line (parked next to the blue S3), I was wearing cream shorts & have a shin sleeve tattoo on my right leg... hard to miss really. So if you saw me at the meet you would understand my dilemma, lol.

Any feedback would be great, cheers!

I would have to say no.

The issue isn't headroom - it's leg room and the size/shape of the seat.

I am 6'4" tall, and I only just barely fit in the Bora V6 4Motion - long trips are actually uncomfortable for me. My 4yo child can't even sit behind me in the car without pushing his feet out to the sides (which is resulting in a very dirty interior in certain spots).

      Sorry.
      Nothing to see here...

Hey Lito, unfortunately I can't do tonight. I think the earliest I'm available would be Thursday night :/

After I posted this topic I thought I'd have a quick squiz at some of the local dealerships. I managed to find a '99 4th gen GLE just down the road so I headed on down just to try it out for size & much to my surprise there was MORE room than I have in my Audi. Seriously, the amount of leg room and head space blew my mind! But I wonder if the dimensions are similar to the GTI.

Im not entirely sure about the different seats between mk4s, my v5 can drop the seats down really low and go back quite far also. i cant imagine anyone have a problem, seeing as I am 6'2" and have a huge amount of room left.

why not go sit in one?
some people are tall in the legs, where as others are tall in the body. im sure that will make a difference too.
Personal opinion will also make a difference, one person fitting, is another persons cramped.

Haha yeah thanks guys, I had a sit in one late yesterday afternoon & there was much more room than I expected.
I'll definitely be going for a 5 door build. Now I just need to wait for my Audi to sell so I can get stuck right into it
