Pierre has the right idea - Although that thing is very expensive for how rediculously simple it is.
Just put a decent size hole (filtered) in a safe place along the pipe - Or run a second intake into the guard like standard. Air will take the path of least resistance, be easier to come through your second hole than drag water up with it.
