  • Where to Buy - Wheels

Sorry this may be daft, as I've spotted quiet a few wheel whores on the forum

But where does everyone buy there 5x100 rims from,
if I try ebay (AU), almost everything is 5x112, and although I know adapter plates can be used etc, but would prefer not give the insurance companies and opportunity to say I have illegal mods.

I can find plenty in the UK but shipping is almost as much as the wheels themselves.

So, is there some good websites in Australia that I should know of? please let me know, I'm soo bored of the stock wheels and if I don't get something soon, I'll probably get a new car haha

    Cheers

There must be heaps of places in oz.
I thought that Subaru's were 5x100 not sure on off-set.
There must be a whole heap of other cars that are also 5x100 but saying that obviously you want the proper offset or close to.

Good luck - Give it time, people will respond.

Could also try the wheels and suspension section, just remember to quote what car you have as it's open to all.

With a price lower than your's for a brand new set,
I'm still open to be persuaded but would need to be a nice deal considering these one's are brand new. .

Swainey, might be cheaper than mine but they are only 8". Mine are staggered 8.5" and 9.5"

Mine also come with extended bolts and 5mm spacers.

I did a lot of research on these before I bought to make sure there were a lot of other happy buyers before committing.

If you are interested, make me an offer

Depends what you are after. lots of 5x100 wheels can be had in OZ, just depends on what your after
I get mine from all over the joint. Forums, ebay, auctions, few places internationally. Most have been found in AUS though...

Can you fit wheels that big on a Golf? There'd be more room in the back arches of an S3 than a Golf.

I have never fitted bigger wheels than the factory supply, as I have always found the dynamics of the car get altered too much. The best handling MK1 Golf I had was on 13's, all the MK2s I had were best on 14's except my G60 which came with 6.5 x 15 inch BBS RMs.

handling will be compromised by bigger wheels to a certain extent - Motor magazine showed theat the HSV 19" were quicker than the HSV20" round a track.

Bit bigger and shinier isnt usually about handling - mine looked ****-hot on the 365 days of the year I wasnt on the racetrack

yep you are right Gav, S3 has much bigger arches.
However with the right tyre selection (225/40) they should sit ok, only 3-4mm poke out back on a golf

So, what would need to be done to pull something like that off? Most components, suspension included, are stock.
Running 225/40, would the tyres need to be stretched to work?
Basically, I want to look roadworthy, no need to draw attention to yourself unnecessarily I figure.
                          Cheers

225/40 will be stretched if fitted to a 9.5
Its not going to look legal or road worthy
and, imho, will look stupid at stock height anyway. But then again most wheels that aren't OEM do...

PCD (the 5 x 100 bit) isn't the only important factor.

You also need to consider centre bore (VW/Audi use a 57.1mm centre bore) and the offset (on a Mk4, you want an offset somewhere in the +30s range, ideally +35 to +38, though this does depend on width too).

That said, width is also an issue - you'll never get a 12" wide wheel under a Mk4, and anything wider than about 8" is a struggle at the front (wider is possible at the rear with appropriate offset).
                              Nothing to see here...
