  • oil filter stuck

    Hi

    I have a year 2000 petrol 1.6 engine golf.

The oil filter seems to be stuck on. Last time I screw it on hand tight.

Bt now it jst seems to be realy stck. The normal oil filter tool I use with my
other cars are too big for it.

Is there any special trick or can u by a smaller oil filter tools for these.???

    tnx in advance

    David

If you have an old socket you can drill a hole through it from one side (about the diameter of your finger) to the other and thread a length of bicycle chain through. You will need to join the two ends of the chain together.

Thread the loop of the bicycle chain around the filter and with the socket perpendicular to the chain turn the socket so it wraps around the chain and tightens around the filter (with the aid of a socket extension and ratchet).

I made one 30 years ago as a kid and Ive never needed another tool for any vehicle.

Goto supercheap and buy a new filter tool they are pretty cheap just get sumthing like this: http://www.renault4.co.uk/technical/...ange-tools.jpg. If worse comes to worse u can drill a hole in the filter on both sides and stick a screwdriver threw it.

I've never owned a car with an engine bay open enough to get something like that around a oil filter and moveable.

I've got one of those, and I can't get the filter off with that and there is no leverage !

I had bought three filter tools, and it won't do jackall.

But I had a filter tool similar to the one snowy posted but in plastic, and i killed the joint. Will get one of those in metal..

I was having a look-see through Autobahn and found this (along with the other four different kinds of wrenches I saw )

Was just $21 bucks because of their special thingy on, get it whilst you can. It's full metal as well !

So happy that I won't get any arm cramps on both sides because the failed "grip of death" will not be required !!!!!

PS- Pardon the crappy photo off the phone..
