  • Bora 4mo, replacing front valence

Hey all. I'm not a frequent poster here, but I figured you'd all know the answer to my question.

I ripped the front valence on my 2001 4mo (sport, if it makes a difference) on a parking guard rail a while back. The front bit which attaches to the bumper, as well as the flat plastic bit that goes back underneath towards the front axle (is this still the valence, or does it have a different name?). Only the black plastic bits are damaged. All the painted stuff is fine.

    Questions:
    1. Is it relatively easy to source a replacement from a wrecker? If so, does it have to come off a bora, or will any mk4 a) fit and b) be the same as the original? Does it matter which year of mk4? Did the valence change at all through the years?
    2. I don't have a lot of experience changing this sort of stuff. Is it easy? Is there a guide somewhere around here about getting it on and off?
    3. If it turns out to be hard to find a replacement, how much could I expect to pay for an OEM replacement?

I'm a bit of a newb when it comes to this sort of stuff. Any help or pointers anyone can give me would be much appreciated.

Don't get a second hand, New 4mo can be had for 180$ at a dealer new.
Generally there are only two Bora styles in aus, basic ones that come on the fwd and some v5, then the slightly more aggressive 4mo one that cones on the 4mo and some v5's
There are some oettinger, gli, and other ones kicking around but they are usually colour coded and stand out a bit more.

Mk4 golf ones don't fit without slight modification.
I have a pic comparing basic and 4mo, ill put it up tomorrow
    Bora gone

I understand that you stated OEM but thought I'd let you know that there are aftermarket "copies" available for a lot less.
Still black moulded plastic that fits exactly without modification.

There is a place at Wetherall Park that sell new replacement panels, bumpers, lights etc...
Riverview wreckers may also suply them. I've bought lights, bonnets, guards and bumpers from them in the past and the've been great.

Can you post a link to the place in Wetherill Park you are talking about that sell the aftermarket ones? I would still like to get a proper 4motion valance to replace the incorrect one on my car.

upside down obviously. did this to show the difference in height, as you can see, none. One just is more aggressive with the squarer profile
standard mk4 bora 2lt on the right (damaged one)
standard mk4 bora '4mo' lip on the left. that square with the two holes pops out, I lost mine after fitting my lip for a short period of time. Cant see it when driving so doesn't matter

Thought I'd ask the question here and bump up a super old thread! Have been searching but have not found anything.

Basically does the bora 4 mo lip fit a golf with some modification?

                  Yes it does...
Bends around the corners are slightly different (bora being a bit more square)
Clips don't line up at some points, center and ends do, 1/3rd points require trimming

Cheers Dylan. And does the end product look fine? As in.... Looks like it should be on there?
