  • Programming new key

    Hi Guys,

Just got a new key from the UK (ebay). It comes with instructions to program it which actually only takes a few steps according to this. Has anyone done this? any traps i should watch out for?

    cheers

What key?? Alarm remote or ign key???? If Ign you need to go to the dealer and have a wall plug in to code mate.

Firstly, is it a 433/434mhz keyfob? As if it isn't its no good to use.

And you will need to get it programmed by a Dealer as mentioned otherwise you need to find a vw/audi specialist who can do it for you. I think Seb from EuroAutomotive possibly can but not too sure
      What’s behind you doesn’t matter..

Why?, can you explain a bit more ?

I suppose he got some kind of this http://cgi.ebay.com.au/NEW-VW-VOLKSW...QQcmdZViewItem
Fuzz, what does the instruction say ?? if the instruction can't get you a fully workable key, then I'd ask for a refund. Unless the instruction say 'bring it to dealer to programme it'

Because the 434mhz is used by AUS, where the US use the 315mhz and obviously you cant program something with a different freq!

well, if he bought from UK, most likely it is 434Mhz. I'll be interested to see if he can programme it without paying dealer, cos my other keyfob is dead

Ok now we know its your radio keys you are talking about this is the drill- firstly try this as some software allows it -
              Switch on ign
Mechanically lock the drivers door with a second key
press the unlock button on the remote to be programmmed once ( indicators should flash) and wait 6 seconds. After the 6 seconds , press the unlock button and the doors should unlock
The first remote is now programmed
Consecutive reomotes can now be programmed by pressing the unlock button twice for the second and three times for the third and so on.
The ign must be switched on and the drivers door manually locked to program the remotes.
Now if this doesnt happen you dont need the dealer all you need is VAG COm or a good Launch machine to code
              See how you go
              Cheers

ok, apologies on dissapearing for a bit. couldn't get to the PC with all thats going on.

so it is the one which red posted up:

its a hella and the codes and frequency match which is all good. The instructions i got are exactly as jimmymac put up in the previous post which pertains to the locking i take it. I will have to take it to a dealer to get the immobiliser programmed which it actually says in the ebay ad i've since realised.

i was just wondering if anyone has done the door locking part and if thats all cool or if it will lock the car and i'll have to toe it or damage the key or something.
